Volunteer
We preserve history. You make it happen.
Volunteers are the cornerstone of the museum. For over 50 years we have been home to members of the community and visitors who want to give back to the community. Volunteer projects can be short term or long term, one shift, or multiple shifts.
Why volunteer?
- Meet visitors from around the world
- Make new friends or spend the day chatting with old friends who also volunteer
- A nifty t-shirt or cap to show off your new gig
- Learn a new skill or share your own talents
- Invitation to our annual Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon
- A peek "behind the scenes" of museums and preservation
- Although we can't pay or trade anything for your efforts, you do walk away with a warm-fuzzy feeling in your belly and a smile on your face!

Here are a few ways in which you can help the Historical Society. Be part of a proud heritage that dates back to the founding of the Historical Society in 1964. You do not have to be a member of the Historical Society to volunteer.
Greeters and Hosts |
Greet our members and guests as they enter the museum. We need smiling faces and good humor to greet our members and guests. Share basic information about the museum, history and events. Meet visitors from around the world including many states in the US, and regions of Europe, Canada and Mexico! Open to volunteers of all ages. Teens, adults, senior all welcome to apply. Training provided.
Greeters are invited to work short shifts throughout the season usually from 11:45 - 4:15 on regular museum days. We also invite you to volunteer for special events throughout the year. |
|
Visit schools to explain the history of Casa Grande and the Valley. Serve as the guide for school groups as they expore the Museum. Training is available, as are prepared activities for students of various ages. On the other hand, if you are interested in developing new projects for students, you would certainly be welcome to discuss your ideas with our education director. |

The Historical Society owns many items that require catalog records and database updates. It is vital that this work be done so that researchers can find the materials they need. |
|
Many people contact the Historical Society for information on various aspects of the community's past. If they can, we encourage them to use our collections to do their own research. If they can't, we try to find the information they seek. We need volunteers who are interested in and capable of such research. The Museum collections currently contain more than 16,000 artifacts and 22,000 photographs pertaining to Casa Grande Valley history. |
|
As in any museum, we need people who understand graphics, painting, artwork and similar areas of endeavor. They help plan and implement our exhibits, interpretive signs, and the posters and other signs we need for various events. Or help build and install exhibits throughout the year. SHort term and long term projects are available. |
Special Events -OR - Programs |
We are always interested in, and grateful for, help from people who are good at these activities. You might spend time baking cookies, planning table decorations, acting as host or greeter at events. running a craft for kids and adults, selling tickets to our events, or one of many other ways of making our programs and events a success- and have fun doing it! |
|
Like most museums, ours depends partly on sale of items about the Museum and the Casa Grande Valley. You can help decorate, stock, plan or sell items for the Gift Store. |
Grant Writing and Processing |
No non-profit organization can operate without funds and we are no exception. We welcome anyone with grant-writing experience and those who knows the museum “scene.” However, if you have good writing skills, we would be happy to train you to write grants. |

Heritage Hall was built in 1927. The Dallis schoolhouse, the former Southside Colored Grammar School, was built in the 1930s. Our barn and our other buildings are not new either. All of these structures need care and preservation. Anyone with an interest in woodworking, carpentry, or other building skills can find all the projects they want here. If you are retired and have kept your professional license as an electrician or plumber, we are even more interested in having you join us. Our collections also must be preserved and maintained for future generations. Conservation help would be most appreciated. |
"Other" |
Remember that last line on every job description "Other duties as assigned". We have that too! If you have a skill or a personal interest that we have not listed here, please feel free to email, call or visit, we might have a project for you! |
